Iisang Bansang Pilipino

Filipinos have the richest culture and our language is one of the things we value the most. August is designated as Buwan ng Wika, which is celebrated to promote the national language. It is a month-long celebration that was extended from a weeklong observance of Linggo ng Wika.

The theme for this year's celebration is "Wikang Katutubo: Tungo sa Isang Bansang Filipino". Language is the main tool that we use to communicate and socialize with other people. Language does a massive job in developing good understanding and relationships. The Philippines has 130 different native languages that should be preserved as cultural heritage or intangible heritage. It is also partnering with UNESCO in 2019 as the year of indigenous languages worldwide.
Language can convey the depth of emotion, the depth of sadness, the depth of gratitude and admiration and what others want to convey to anyone.Language is the most important element in any form of effective communication.

Behind the Internet

More than two months ago, classes officially started. Same old subjects, new teachers with different teaching techniques, and more complex topics than the previous school year. The subject ICT is one of the subject that gave me a headache at first. I learned about the different pioneers that specialized on internet.
I really had a hard time when our topics were about the history of internet and we needed to memorize the year of different innovations of internet. Memorizing for me is hard, but I tried my best to study the dates and find a better and easier technique to memorize all years that was given.
For the upcoming quarter, I am looking forward to less memorizations and more studying. Memorizing is the lowest form of intelligence. I am hoping to enjoy this subject for the next quarter and for the rest of the school year.

Resilient and Prepared

National Disaster Resilience Month takes place every July. Pursuant to Executive Order No. 29, s. 2017, it shall be observed throughout the country during the whole month of July every year through the conduct of activities relative to building disaster resilience.
The theme for the observance of the 2019 NDRM is “Kahandaan sa Sakuna’t Peligro sa Tunay na Pagbabago”. Since long ago, we are tested by countless calamities and disasters. Many lives have been taken because we are not prepared for the disasters that might come. But Filipinos are known for our resiliency during disasters. We surmounted these trials and pains, we lost loved ones but remain strong and undefeated. We bounce back, stand again and pick the pieces of our selves back. We remain strong.
By this observance, we become more conscious, ready, and prepared for any disaster that may come to our country. With proper training and advanced planning, everyone can be prepared to react appropriately during and after of any disaster.

Heightening National Wholesomeness

We annually celebrate health and nutrition of us, Filipinos. According to the Presidential Decree 491 in 1974, Nutrition Month should be held every July. The National Nutrition Council is in charge to coordinate and lead the nationwide campaign.

The theme for the 2019 Nutrition Month is “ Kumain nang wasto at maging aktibo… push natin ‘to!” The theme encourages everyone to advocate and remind them the importance of healthy diets, more physical activity than sedentary behavior. Pushing the advocacy means that each and every one can contribute to better nutrition and physical activity for better health.
With the help of this annual campaign, Filipinos can be reminded to value our health by eating the right kind of food so you can grow properly and be healthy. Different activities are held in every school in the country, like poster making, nutria-jingle, and many more stuffs that influence them and promote health and nutrition. Through these activities, students can be reminded of proper diet, eating nutritious foods, and others.
This nationwide celebration does not only give us fun and enjoyment but it also has a bigger purpose. It encourages us to eat healthy and to be physically active.

Nationwide Consciousness

Earthquakes occur unforeseen. The Philippines frequently experiences seismic and volcanic tremors because it lies along then Pacific Ring of Fire. In recent months, a number of strong earthquakes shook parts of the country. These incidents could indicate that the big one is probably coming.
The NSED is a quarterly drill that seeks to establish a culture of disaster preparedness among Filipinos and promote disaster awareness. It’s also done to evaluate the effectiveness of the local governments’ contingency plans and protocols in relation to earthquake scenarios and other similar events.
It is important to be braced and ready because no one can predict when earthquakes will happen. Classes cannot be suspended in advance like when there’s a storm warning. Nevertheless, with proper training and advanced planning, everyone can be prepared to react appropriately during and after of an earthquake. Proper execution of school drills will also help prevent panic, which might lead to accidents when everyone is overwhelmed with fear during a strong earthquake.
Earthquakes can never be predicted, and being prepared is the best armor when unexpected shaking and trembling of the earth occurs.

Dear President Rodrigo Duterte,

You’ve done so many changes, as you have promised, and progress to our country since the day you were officially the leader of this falling country. However not all changes are gratifying.
The cleanup of Boracay and Manila Bay is one of your projects that I admire the most. These days, our environment is no longer valued, and you took steps to protect and conserve the beauty of the Philippines.
Yet, it was frustrating to hear that you talked oppressively about the priests of the Catholic faith, which almost all of Filipinos belong to. As our president and leader, you must be able to deal with each religion respectfully, despite the doubts you may have regarding them. They serve as instruments of Christ so we should give them respect.
Extrajudicial killings have been rampant and everyone knows that you are the one behind all this. Do you think taking someone’s life is acceptable? Is putting the justice in your hands right? It’s not, mister president! You should give them a chance. You also harass and sexually assault women which is the worst thing a man can do.
Every Filipino has the goal of changing our country for the better. You have a great influence and control over the people of our country, and I hope you will be the one to unite us and lead us to change our country to be better.

Blood for Freedom

Aside from students and employees enjoying a day with their family at home, people forget the true meaning of Independence day. Every 12th of June, we commemorate the independence of the Philippines from Spain. Filipinos from more seven thousand islands and in different Filipino communities all over the world celebrate this special day.
It’s been a hundred and twenty-one years since our ancestors sacrificed their lives and fortunes to gain the freedom of the Filipino people. It was the most significant event in our country’s history. The freedom we achieved was not for free. That is why we celebrate our country’s independence not only to relax and get away from work, but to thank our forefathers the sacrifices they have made. They offered their lives for us and for our generation to live and survive.
Some Filipinos specially children in our generation nowadays don’t give that much importance to our heroes. They gave their life for us, and as a sign of gratitude we need to recognize and salute the heroes. Our heroes that were the reason that we have freedom and independence from Spaniards that colonized our own country and home.
